From graphene to clean water: GIANCE at WIN2026

Water is no longer just a resource—it is becoming one of the industry’s greatest challenges. Increasing water scarcity, stricter environmental regulations and the transition towards circular industrial processes are driving the need for innovative technologies that make water treatment and reuse more efficient.

Against this backdrop, WIN2026 – Water in Industry, held in Delft (The Netherlands), brought together researchers, technology providers, industrial stakeholders and policymakers to discuss the future of industrial water management.

GIANCE was proudly represented by project partner Lenntech,  through Ingrid Pinel, Johanna Hinrichs and Niels van Linden, who engaged with visitors throughout six days of scientific sessions, technical workshops and networking activities.

From advanced materials to industrial applications

Within GIANCE, one of the project’s eleven industrial use cases focuses on water treatment, where graphene-enabled membrane technologies are being developed and validated to address challenging industrial wastewater streams.

Graphene and graphene-derived materials have the potential to enhance membrane performance by improving separation efficiency, durability and resistance to fouling—key factors for enabling more sustainable industrial water treatment and increasing water reuse.

By combining cutting-edge materials with industrial validation, GIANCE aims to bridge the gap between laboratory innovation and real-world deployment, supporting Europe’s transition towards more resource-efficient and circular industries.

Lenntech’s role in GIANCE

As an international specialist in water treatment, membrane processes and water reuse, Lenntech plays a key role in bringing GIANCE innovations closer to industrial implementation.

During WIN2026, the Lenntech team presented GIANCE’s vision to researchers, technology providers and industrial stakeholders, highlighting how advanced graphene-enabled membrane technologies could contribute to tackling one of the most pressing challenges facing industry: making every drop of water count.

Their participation also created valuable opportunities to exchange knowledge, gather feedback from experts and strengthen connections with organisations working towards more sustainable water management solutions.

The GIANCE consortium would like to thank Ingrid Pinel, Johanna Hinrichs and Niels van Linden, as well as the entire Lenntech team, for their continued commitment to promoting the project and fostering dialogue between research and industry.

We also thank everyone who visited the Lenntech booth and shared ideas with us during the event. Together, we are helping shape the future of sustainable industrial water treatment.
