GIANCE and 2D-PRINTABLE at the 9th EU-Korea Workshop on Graphene and 2D Materials in Strasbourg
On 26 May 2025, the 9th EU-Korea Workshop on Graphene and 2D Materials will take place at the Institute for Supramolecular Science and Engineering, University of Strasbourg, gathering leading researchers and innovators from Europe and Korea to explore the latest advancements in graphene and related materials.
Among the key participants are the GIANCE and 2D-PRINTABLE projects, two flagship European initiatives contributing to the future of sustainable and multifunctional 2D materials. Representing GIANCE, Prof. Ahmed Elmarakbi (Northumbria University, UK) will deliver a presentation titled:
“Design, Development, and Industrial Scale-Up of Sustainable Graphene-Based Multifunctional Materials: The GIANCE Approach”
in Session 3, scheduled from 14:25 to 14:50 CEST.
In his talk, Prof. Elmarakbi will outline GIANCE’s integrated, industry-driven approach to developing cost-effective, lightweight, and recyclable graphene-based composites, coatings, foams, and membranes. He will also emphasize the project’s alignment with EU Green Deal priorities and the Horizon Europe framework, highlighting real-world applications in automotive, aerospace, energy, and water treatment sectors.
The workshop agenda includes insightful presentations from experts across academia and industry, covering topics such as:
-
Evolution of the Graphene Flagship initiative (Maria Abrahamsson)
-
Innovations in supercapacitor technology, MXenes, and laser-engineered 2D materials
-
Applications of 2D materials in neural interfaces, energy storage, and cognitive electronics
Chaired by Prof. Paolo Samorì (France) and Prof. Sang Ouk Kim (Republic of Korea), the workshop fosters EU-Korea collaboration and knowledge exchange in advanced 2D material systems.
The active involvement of GIANCE and 2D-PRINTABLE underscores their strategic role in strengthening the European research ecosystem and promoting international cooperation in emerging technologies based on graphene and other 2D materials.
